For information on Finland, please visit the following link to the International student’s guide by the International Office of our University. It is a really good guide, explaining about religion, customs and culture in Finland. It also has information on when shops close in Finland and many more important information to living here in Jyväskylä. It will be also be sent to you by the International Office of the University when you arrive.

I am an international student at the department of History and Ethnology, do I have to pay the membership fee for Nefa (or Tosine)?
No, you don’t have to. You can if you want, but it is not obligatory. If you are an international degree student, then you should pay the membership fee of 8 euros.

Can I participate in your events?
Yes, you can participate in all our events and you do not need to be a member. Most of our events begin at 18.00, but you can also come late, for example at by 19.30-20 the latest. Most of our events are also held in the center of the Student Village.

Is it difficult to meet Finnish people/students?
It depends on the student. Here in Nefa, all you need to do is come and talk to us. We all speak English and will gladly help you. The best place to meet Finnish Ethnology students is at our Nefa -events. Invitation are sent especially through facebook, but also through our email list.

How can I participate in the University activities?
Contact our recreation correspondents or international affairs correspondents and they will tell more. If you wish to participate more activily, then SIA is the place for you. (see contact us for more details).
